Avishalom Tor, Professor of Law at Notre Dame Law School and Director of the Notre Dame Research Program on Law and Market Behavior (ND LAMB), presents his research project, "Towards a Fuller Understanding of Inequality: From Psychology to a Behaviorally-Informed Legal Policy," to an interdisciplinary group of scholars, artists, and scientists comprised of fellows, guest faculty, and students.

Professor Tor’s primary legal expertise is in the areas of antitrust law, corporate governance, and behavioral law and economics. His scholarship draws on behavioral and experimental methods to study competition and cooperation and the legal rules and institutions that shape such behavior. More recently, Professor Tor has been examining the implications of his research for understanding the antecedents and consequences of inequality.

Professor Tor is the co-editor of the books New Developments in Competition Law and Economics (forthcoming 2018) and Nudging—Possibilities, Limitations and Applications in European Law and Economics (2016), as well as special issues for two journals, Law & Contemporary Problems(2011) and Antitrust Law Journal (2010). He is the author or coauthor of more than thirty articles and book chapters across the disciplines of law, psychology, economics, and behavioral decision making. Professor Tor’s legal research has been published in venues including the Michigan Law Review, Duke Law Journal, Texas Law Review, and Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, while his behavioral work has appeared in journals such as Psychological Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics. His research has been covered by numerous national and international media outlets, including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and U.S. News and World Report.

Professor Tor’s work has been supported by a European Union Marie Curie International Reintegration Grant (2006-2009) as well as Fulbright and Russell Sage Foundation Fellowships at Harvard Law School. He has been a Visiting Professor at several university law schools, including George Mason, the University of Hamburg, Fordham, the Catholic University of Louvain, Lucerne, Haifa, and St. Gallen. Professor Tor also served as an adviser and consultant to a Commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission (2003-6) and is the past Secretary (2008-11) and Management Board member (2011-14) of the European Association of Law and Economics.
