- "Lyric Logic: American Modernism and the Problem of Induction"
Johanna Winant is Assistant Professor of English at West Virginia University, where she specializes in modernism, poetry and poetics, and American literature, and she is a faculty associate of the Program in Women’s and Gender Studies. Her research focuses on the relationship between modern literature and philosophy, and more specifically on how literature does philosophical work. Her current book project argues that modern American poetry transforms an epistemological problem—the difficulty of predicting future experiences based on past ones—into an ambitious poetic strategy.
Professor Winant is the author of four articles, which have appeared or are forthcoming in Poetics Today, James Joyce Quarterly, Journal of Modern Literature, and Paideuma. Her reviews have appeared in Modernism/modernity and Studies in Romanticism.
Professor Winant’s research has been supported by fellowships from the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry at Emory University.
