Masterclass: Jacob Swisher

Headshot of NDIAS Graduate Fellow Jacob Swisher

Join the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study for a masterclass given by NDIAS Graduate Fellow Jacob Swisher (Ph.D. candidate, History), titled "Peopling the Anthropocene: Why the Age of Humans Needs a More Human History."

All are invited to this public masterclass exploring how history can help us better understand the past, present, and future of the Anthropocene, a proposed geological epoch defined by the ways in which human activity has altered the Earth system since the mid-twentieth century. This presentation will survey recent work in the emerging field of Anthropocene history and will feature historical case studies from northern New Mexico that highlight how crafting histories of people and local communities, rather than Homo sapiens, can reveal new insights about the dawn of an Age of Humans. The talk will also explore what promise a peopled Anthropocene history may hold for reframing the way we think about our shared planetary future.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP here. Refreshments will be provided.
